Anstro Catering Equipment was started in 1989 in a tiny 350sq meter rented premises in Sandkraal Road (now Nelson Mandela Boulevard) by partners Dimitri Angelis, Peter Stergianos and Douka Stergianos. Each brought with him various expertise after many years in restaurant, hotel, and liquor store retailing and in Douka’s case, also some solid architectural training that has been an asset in the many restaurant and industrial kitchen layouts and installations done through the years.

In 1995 the business had grown to the point where it was bursting at the seams. A much larger premises of 2000m² plus under roof parking was purchased. This remains the present home of Anstro. Incorporated in the present premises is the show room in which customers can find anything from a humble teaspoon to a walk-in chiller and freezer.
